Sokratis Sinopoulos was born in Athens in 1974. He began his musical career with studying traditional and Byzantine music as well as folk songs. Although he learnt how to play many instruments, at the age of 14 he decided to choose a lyre. He has performed with many ensembles in Greece and abroad and is currently an associate professor at the Department of Music and Art at the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki.
He published his first album with the ECM label entitled ‘Eight Winds’.
The compositions included on the album and those performed at concerts are partly improvised and partially noted down. As the artist himself says, "black and white musical sketches, which we paint differently each time". Although the music of the quartet clearly refers to the Greek musical tradition, it moves from there to four sides of the world and jazz.
